His Kisses Are Dreamy... (Another Outland Collection)

Story and Art by BerkelyBreathed

Once upon a time, there was a comic strip called Bloom County. It was political. It was unpleasant. It was the funniest damn thing in the papers, edging out Doonesbury more often than not. And then it ended, and from the ruins tottered Outland, a brand new strip, with few of the characters and, talk had it, little of the laughs. I don't know. I'm stuck in Ireland, where we only ever got Bloom County collections, and there's been only one Outland collection, and I missed it. So, I wondered, what could be the state of affairs in Outland by now? Hence, the review of this book. I'm probably not doing it for your sake, 'cos you probably live in the U.S.A anyway, and can get it in the papers whenever you want. Bastards.

So, anyway, back to the stories. Bill the Cat and Socks, Bill Gates, Sexual Harassment, Hairballs and of course the duly elected representatives of the Unites States Congress are all brought screaming to the microscope and sliced up really thin. The magic's still there, the basic human nature instincts still roll, and the comedy's as vicious as always. It's not as political as it was, and relies more heavily on character identification, but if you can't identify with Bill and Opus, what are you? Some kind of freak? Peace.
