From A To Zippy
Story and Art by Bill Griffiths,
Penguin
In one respect, Zippy the Pinhead
is that rare and wonderful thing - and intelligent and unusual newspaper
cartoon strip. In another respect it is that irritatingly common thing,
a newspaper strip that is completely unfunny. In fairness, in this case
it is not because the jokes arenšt funny, it is because they arenšt
there at all. A typical Zippy strip consists of an intellectual whinge
about junk culture punctuated by non-sequiturs mainly referring to
atrocious american tv shows many years past. I can understand how
people, their brains deadened by years of reading Garfield,
might turn to this for a change, but that still donšt make it any good.
