Most of the work in this collection, the Author states in the introduction, is from his earlier days, and thus is associated in his mind with the theme of waiting for a cheque to arrive in the post. The cynic in me suggests that a more honest theme would be that of clearing his back catalogue. Certainly the inclusion of "True Humour - The Professor Bean Lectures" is only for Campbell completists, as is "Dead-end Job". There are some highlights, however, such as the five one-page comics published in Cerebus, and an account of the early years of Pope Rodrigo Borgia. However, the inclusion of an interview with an Australian political cartoonist is questionable, as is the excerpt from the "Toogoolawah Gazette", which contains a single inch-high strip drawn by Campbell, along with five pages of material by other artists. The art, as always is Eddie Campbell; (apart from the political cartoonist, and the five pages...) If you like his work on From Hell or Deadface, you'll like it here.
