Short Review: What did you expect, From Hell?

The most striking feature of this comic is the Charles Vess cover, a sign that some people will do anything for vast wodges of money. And a comic based around popular cars game/crack cocaine substitute Magic: The Gathering is sure to have vast amounts of folding stuff, it's true. The story is secondary to getting the card-play right, to the extent that one of the pages at the back is devoted to an analysis of what cards got played when, by a rules guru at Wizards of the Coast. The story is in a standard honour-drenched fantasy setting, with a pair of ex-friends facing each other down for the sake of the tribe. Not that anyone cares about it, or the dodgy art. The enclosed card is almost certainly going to be worth more than the comic soon, and in it's own way deserves more attention.
