Hilly Rose 3

Story and Art by B. C. Boyer

Astro Comics, $2.95

Short Review: Fun.

Humour's a funny thing, if you'll pardon the phrase. From surrealism to slapstick, irony to sarcasm, it's been around for in comics for as long as comics have been around. B.C. Boyer has apparently decided to amalgamate as many as possible into this series. The characters vary from realistic to Bone-like, and the situations borrow themes from everyone between Looney Tunes to Woody Allen, and back again. There's also a few well rendered moments of genuine tension among there, but not over much. In fact, the reason this title didn't automatically make it into the select pile was the Preview in Cerebus 194, where there was a good deal too much plot, and not enough of the funny stuff. This seems to be fixed, at least until we get enough of a handle on the characters to care about their interactions, and this is only the third issue. I recommend you jump on the bandwagon as soon as possible.
