Short Review: It's Mrs Robocop! Skip.

Alternative publishers can exist for anumber of reasons. A desire to do something entirely unlike everything else (Beanworld, Cerebus), a simple distrust of mainstream publishers (Tyrant, Roarin' Rick's Rare Bit Fiends), or a simple failure to measure up to the standards required by companies who at least like to think that their name means quality (Catfight, Cenotaph). So which of the categories does Dark City Chronicles first mini-series, a two part effort called Dark City Angel, fall into? A prevalence towards Guns, Babes and Cop (all at the same time!) seems to rule it out of the first, and the Wolvie reference in the creator talk seems to check it out of the second too.

The art ranges uneasily from cartoonish to straightforward gunbattles and ammo flashes, while the writing tries too hard for unassumingly cool, without actually having anything of substance to hang the quotes on.

In the first chapter, we see the heroine take down a crazy big robot with shoulder mounted cannons and .. oh, you saw that movie too? We also learn that she's part robot, and an ex-lover of the prominent male captain. Second chapter, we see a sex-robot go crazy. Just an excuse for lots of naked lady, really. And to end it all, some part robot angst from our heroine again.

The next issue blurb has no words, just a picture of a crying woman (no, another one) and the words "Next issue: 2". Obvious, you cry? Optimistic, I suspect.
