Cud 7

Story & Art by Terry LaBan, Fantagraphic, $2.25 US, IR£2.25

The first story here is the second part of High Noon, and part seven of the ongoing story of Bob Cudd, outrageous performance artist, and popular superstar ever since a controversial NEA grant. In part one, he was publically challenged by Ursula Clamm to a face-off in Lincoln Center for the title of "worlds most outragous performance artist", and most of part two is devoted to the contest. Darkly funny stuff, but in no way for the faint of heart.

The second story, and the first in the brand new genre of 'Tundra-Noir', is a tale of Muktuk Wolf'sbreath, Hard-Boiled Shaman. A tale of demons, foxes and the wide open plains of the Artic, written like Raymond Chandler, this is, again, darkly funny, and a great read.

Poor old Bob Cudd has just been challenged by Ursula Clamm for the title of ``World's Most Outrageous Performance Artist''. After trying so hard to mend his ways, does this spell a return to the Bob of old and the death of his marriage? Yes indeedy, and better still it means we get to see one of the greatest challenge matches ever documented. Forget Alien vs Predator, Punisher vs Batman, My Daddy vs Your Daddy - this is the real thing. I'll never look at a propane stove in the same light again.

But there's more, for the first time in a comic store near you Muktuk Wolf's Breath the Hard-Boiled Shaman in the brand new genre, Tundra-noir. A tale of dark deeds during the long night, I hope there's a million more stories like this one in the windy North.

From start to finish this is damned funny stuff. Even the fillers at the back are great. Get it now, rush down to an FP near you and slap your wad on the counter.
